On March 27 and 28, 2012, the DEA Educational Foundation brought together on behalf of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL), representatives from five South American and two West African countries to discuss the rising problem of smoked crack cocaine base in those countries. Included in the gathering were delegates from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay in South America, and Guinea-Bissau and Liberia in West Africa. The gathering of experts from law enforcement, education, treatment, government policy, and academia took place at the DEA Museum’s traveling “Target America” exhibit in Tampa, Florida.
