Students Dance at DEA Red Ribbon Rally at DEA Headquarters

Students dance at DEA Red Ribbon RallyOn October 24, 2012, five students from Drew Elementary performed at the annual DEA Red Ribbon Rally at DEA headquarters in Arlington, VA. The students who are participants of the DEA Youth Dance Program, a program under the DEA Educational Foundation, entertained the crowd with their dance called “One Tribe.” Attendees of the event included DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart, Deputy Attorney General James Cole, Director of National Drug Control Policy R. Gil Kerlikowske and other officials and attendees. CityDance Dancers, from Washington, DC, attended the event and oversaw the DEA YDP dance performance as the students’ instructors and performed a powerful modern duet as well.

Red Ribbon Week is a time to pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, whose tragic murder led to the creation of the Red Ribbon Program. Young people across the country participate in Red Ribbon by pledging to lead healthy, drug free lives and wear red ribbons while participating in community-wide, anti-drug events.

“It’s so great to see the future of America committing to a healthy lifestyle,” said Jill Roberts, National Director, DEA Youth Dance Program. “These students take this very seriously and were grateful for the opportunity to perform in such a high-profile event for Red Ribbon Week.”
