Target America: Opening Eyes to the Damage Drugs Cause, the DEA Museum’s traveling exhibit, made its Gulf Coast Premier at the Louisiana State Museum, Old U.S. Mint, in New Orleans. With a grand opening reception on March 2, and a press conference and ribbon cutting ceremony on March 3, New Orleans became the eighth stop for Target America since first opening in 2002. To date, more than twenty-million students, teachers and parents have visited the exhibit and been moved by the powerful drug abuse prevention message that it contains. Previous stops for the exhibit include: Washington, DC; Dallas, TX; Omaha, NE; New York, NT; Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL and Los Angeles, CA. Target America will be on display in New Orleans Tuesdays through Sundays until November 24, 2010. The exhibit is open free of charge.
Target America not only showcases the role and impact of federal and local drug law enforcement, it also presents current neuroscience research designed to understand and break the cycle of drug abuse and addiction, as most Americans are unaware of the documented damaging effects of illegal drugs on the mind and body. By targeting at risk audiences-middle, high school and college students, as well as parents and educators, this exhibit provides critical information on the dangers of drugs to young people who may never hear this information from any other source.
The DEA Educational Foundation graciously thanks the following donors for their generous contributions. Their support reflects their appreciation and understanding of the essential role education plays in preventing the loss of potential and destruction of lives caused by drug abuse. Through their combined generosity, the message of Target America will be communicated to literally millions of students, teachers and families in the region.
